Enzo Accardi was born November 27th, 1954 in Butera, Sicily, where he will
spend his youth.
He is unable to pinpoint with precision when his passion truly
started; more likely, as he often states, it has always been with him, as his first
personal exhibitions from the age of 14 and 15 bear witness.
Accardi credits his
first important impact with art to his High School teacher Mr Ballarò from whom he
acquires the enthusiasm for art as well as basic painting techniques.
Accardi moves to Florence at the age of 18 and there he immerses himself into the
Renaissance spirit. He then travels through France, where he is drawn to Impressionism
which will influence him in a very significant way.
Accardi has never departed from
the warm, vivid colours and lifestyle of Southern Italy: indeed he still shares his time
living , alternatively, both in Sicily and in Tuscany.
In the 80's he is participant to various collective exhibitions in Florence (at the Galleries
"il Cenacolo" and "14") and also in Viareggio, Paris and Amsterdam.
In the 90's he holds various personal exhibitions in Catania, Palermo Taormina, Siracusa and Milazzo.
He engages in various painting techniques including oil, water colour, pastel and with remarkable outcome.
Enzo Accardi's artistic expression is recognizable in all of his works, with hints to the multitude of facets
which pregnate the struggle of life. Surely, technique, form, chromatism and beauty are all essential ; it is ,
however, through the metaphoric and "ideologic" frame that the artist reads the world. This is evident in Accardi's
work, with hints to a decadent and "decaying" world which contrasts with signs of vital energy (see naked figures),
the misshaped/disfigured bodies which are the result of the passing of time or our society disintegration.
Accardi's painting stands out for its drawing vigour and its particular plastic rendering which is borne by intense
chromatism, the latter clearly hinting at his Sicilian origins. His painted images are immersed in a vision which has
been filtered through memories, suffused with a lyrical essence that is both a breath of light and a breath of life.
Accardi's works can be found in private collections in Italy and abroad ( Europe, China, Japan, US).
